A security breach was detected on May 31, 2023, when suspicious activity was identified within its network. The affected systems were immediately taken offline to prevent further unauthorized access.

The forensic investigation confirmed that there had been unauthorized access to files containing the protected health information of patients, some of which may have been obtained by the hackers.

Barlow Respiratory Hospital said while the attack affected several IT systems, the hospital was able to continue to operate under its emergency procedures and patient care was not interrupted.
