IRS warns users of post-tax season phishing scams

IRS warns users of post-tax season phishing scams (Identity Theft, Fraud, Scams)

The IRS once again is warning taxpayers to be on the lookout for phishing scams even after tax season has ended. The agency has identified two new variations of tax related scams with one threatening to cancels a victim’s social security while the other claims to threaten victims with an IRS lien or levy, according to a June 5 security notice. The IRS warns that it doesn’t leave pre-recorded, urgent, or threatening messages claiming that warrants will be issued, or other verbal threats claiming to include law-enforcement agency intervention, deportation or revocation of license. Other telltale signs of scams include demands of immediate payment, threats to involve the authorities, demands for taxes to be paid without giving the taxpayer an opportunity to question of appeal, and requesting payment card numbers over the phone.    Cybercrime Cybersecurity Phishing
