New database containing sensitive data of LandMark White clients found on dark web

New details regarding the massive data breach at the property valuation firm LandMark White has emerged recently. The company confirmed that cybercrooks have released a second database containing details of its clients on a dark web site. However, the database was not available for a long period and was taken down as soon as the company became aware.

About the database - LandMark White revealed that the database was available on the dark web at about 12:50pm GMT on March 13. Upon learning, the database was taken offline by about 5:20pm GMT on the same day.

The leaked database contained 76,873 files and was a subset of the original 137,500 valuation records posted online in January 2019. It included data such as property valuation and some personal contact information of homeowners, residents and property agents. The database also contained first and last names, residential addresses and contact numbers of the company’s clients.

“We confirm that in total, there are 76,873 files contained in this second dataset, however can confirm that these documents are a subset of the original 137,500 valuation records initially disclosed on 31 January 2019. Therefore, there are no new documents or personal details disclosed. We confirm that the second dataset does not contain any of the 1,680 supporting documents contained in the original dataset,” said LMW in its report.

What next - LMW warned the users to be vigilant as it is possible that more such databases could be released over the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, the company is also assessing the situation and trying to remove the documents as quickly as possible.
