The LaPorte County government has fallen victim to a malware attack. This attack has impacted the government email systems and the county website.

What happened?

In a statement, LaPorte County Board of Commissioners President Dr. Vidya Kora has revealed that a malware attack had occurred on July 6, 2019. This has disabled the county’s computer and email systems.

What actions are being taken?

The county has begun working with security experts to respond to such cyber attacks. The experts will also coordinate the county to repair the affected systems and improve the security to prevent such virus infection.

The county has reported the matter to FBI and other appropriate law enforcement agencies about the attack.

“I participated in a conference call late Sunday morning with Council President Randy Novak, our County Auditor and County Attorney and the IT Department along with the incident response team assembled by Mullen Coughlin to develop a game plan to respond to the attack and come up with an approach to repair our systems and protect them from further damage. Mullen Coughlin will also assist us as we prepare documentation to report this attack to the FBI and other appropriate law enforcement agencies,” said Dr. Kora, abc57 reported.

It is currently not known as to who is behind the attack.
