New spear-phishing campaign targets Restaurant Depot customers

A new phishing campaign purported to come from ‘Restaurant Depot’ targets the customers of the restaurant stating that an invoice is due.

Contents of the phishing email

  • The phishing email delivered to Restaurant Depot customers includes an attachment disguised as an outstanding invoice.
  • The email asks the customers to make the outstanding payment or else the restaurant will deduct the balance from their accounts.

Tales From The Pits tweeted about the phishing scam along with a screenshot. “Watch out for phishing emails! First time we've seen one with Restaurant Depot email spoofed,” the tweet read.

“Good morning, here is your invoice for $1924.04. We will debit it at 12 PM,” the phishing email read.

The response from the restaurant

Upon becoming aware of this scam, Restaurant Depot warned its customers that the email stating an “invoice is due” is not from them. The restaurant chain further requested its customers to delete the email without opening.

“TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS

You may have received an email that appears to be from us indicating an invoice is due. That email is NOT from us. Please delete it without opening. Please be assured that we are taking steps to find the culprit and will do everything in our power to prevent this from happening in the future,” Restaurant Deport said.
