Data Privacy Week Jan 23, 2023

Cyware is proud to announce its participation as a Champion of Data Privacy Week 2023, an initiative hosted by the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). The NCA is a non-profit organization on a mission to create a more secure, interconnected world.

Data Privacy Week, which originated as Data Privacy Day in the US and Canada in 2008, is an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. This celebration marks the signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty addressing privacy and data protection, on January 28, 1981. The NCA, which promotes cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness through partnerships between governments and corporations, spearheads the event in North America each year.

By taking this step, Cyware affirms its commitment to the principle that all organizations have a responsibility to handle personal information with care and consideration. As a Champion for Data Privacy Week, Cyware pledges to support and promote the importance of data privacy within its own organization and the wider community. The aim is to provide citizens with the knowledge and resources necessary to effectively manage their data, as well as to educate organizations about the need to respect their users' privacy.

**Cyware’s efforts to safeguard privacy **

At Cyware, we take the protection of personal and business information very seriously. We understand that businesses entrust us with their sensitive data and we are committed to handling it responsibly. Cyware regularly trains its employees on data protection practices to ensure that everyone at our company is aware of their role in protecting personal information. Since day one, Cyware has made it a priority to communicate what data we collect and process from our users and develop policies in recognition of relevant national and international laws.

Cyware has established rigorous data protection protocols and processes to ensure the security of personal information. In keeping with this commitment, Cyware has demonstrated compliance with SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO27001 certifications, indicating the thoroughness and robustness of our information security management and data privacy controls. These achievements highlight the company’s commitment to achieving the highest levels of data security.

Protecting your digital footprint

Every time you engage in online activity, you create a digital footprint. Various websites, applications, and platforms gather information about your actions, preferences, and transactions. This can include sensitive personal information such as Social Security and driver's license numbers and data about your physical well-being, like what a smartwatch records when it tracks your steps.

While it may seem overwhelming to think about how your personal information is shared and processed, rest assured that there are steps you can take to take control of your data. By being selective about who you share your precious data with, you can have peace of mind knowing that your information is being handled responsibly.

Cyware has made consistent efforts to educate citizens about the threats to their data security and privacy. For example, Cyware Social is an application from Cyware to give back to the community by keeping them updated on the latest developments from the cyber threat landscape and spreading awareness about cyber hygiene best practices. Additionally, Cyware’s Daily Cybersecurity Roundup newsletter helps thousands of readers declutter the top happenings from the cybersecurity world on a daily basis in an easy-to-consume format.

The role of businesses in protecting privacy

Businesses play a critical role in protecting the privacy of individuals by handling personal information responsibly and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This includes implementing appropriate security measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Businesses also have a responsibility to be transparent about their data collection, use, and sharing practices and to provide customers with meaningful choices about how their personal information is used.

They also have an obligation to be accountable for their actions, meaning that they should have procedures in place to detect, prevent, and correct privacy violations. Maintaining the privacy of all stakeholders, including customers, partners, and employees, is crucial for building trust and maintaining a positive reputation. Security practitioners play the frontline role in helping businesses maintain the confidentiality of their sensitive information. Cyware publishes long-form educational guides, research & analysis articles, as well as daily, weekly, and monthly threat briefings to help them take stock of the evolving cyber threat landscape and take the necessary actions to safeguard their data security and privacy. Cyware also hosts webinars with expert speakers providing insight and advice on cybersecurity and privacy topics.

The bottom line

Our goal at Cyware is to provide our customers with a secure and private experience by not only adhering to privacy standards set by governments, industry bodies, and regulators, but also actively educating all our stakeholders and the public on how to safeguard sensitive information. As a Champion for Data Privacy Week, Cyware will continue to uphold and prioritize privacy across all its business initiatives and actively engage with various stakeholders within its community.
