Can’t ransomware actors just chill around the holidays?! A Maryland-based biopharmaceutical company is facing the tough job of mitigating a ransomware incident that resulted in a data breach. Meanwhile, another ransomware group hobbled a maritime services giant. Not enough? Google’s new Threat Horizon report has made some key revelations about a NorthKorean threat group targeting security firms in South Korea. Supernus Pharmaceuticals disclosed a ransomware incident wherein actors threatened to leak 1.5TB of data if the ransom demand is not met.

The Cl0p ransomware gang crippled the networks of Swire Pacific Offshore to steal confidential proprietary commercial information and some personal data.

Panasonic suffered a breach after an unknown third-party infiltrated one of its servers and accessed sensitive records pertaining to customers and employees.

IKEA employees, suppliers, and business partners were warned of an ongoing targeted reply-chain email scam. Employees were requested not to open the emails.

Google, in a report titled Threat Horizons, warned against cybercriminals targeting improperly-secured Google Cloud Platform (GCP) instances to download cryptocurrency mining software, and launch ransomware attacks and phishing attacks.

According to U.S. officials, Israeli hackers were behind the cyberattack on Iran’s gas stations last month. Besides gas stations, hackers had also hijacked billboards in major cities.

The same report also revealed that Lazarus APT, a North Korean-linked cyberespionage group, impersonated Samsung recruiters to target South Korean security firms selling anti-malware solutions.

Interpol confiscated over 1,000 suspects involved in different online frauds and money laundering instances. It recovered nearly $27 million from them in total.

The Anti-Phishing Working Group reported that it witnessed 260,642 phishing attacks in June 2021, making it the highest monthly total since 2004.

IoT-and-device security firm Armis raised $300 million led by One Equity Partners, with participation from existing investors.
