An employee of Deloitte's India office has been found to be the mastermind of a computer hacking gang that targeted British businesses, government officials and journalists, a Sunday Times report said.

About 70 percent of organizations in India have been hit by a ransomware attack in the last three years while a whopping 81 percent of organizations feel that they could be the target of ransomware attacks, a new report showed on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT on Tuesday released draft documents for guidelines on data anonymization and mobile security for e-governance projects conducted by the Indian government.

While attacks on municipalities increased only slightly, the analysis by Barracuda Networks showed that ransomware attacks on educational institutions more than doubled, and attacks on the healthcare and financial verticals tripled.

The malicious HTML attachments include a link to a phishing site, which, when opened, gets redirected to a third-party machine that requests the users to enter their credentials to access information or download a file that may contain malware.

Digital infrastructure services provider Cloudflare, which suffered an outage on Tuesday, said that the issue occurred because of a network change, not owing to a cyberattack.

Ransomware attackers are betting on the fact that the losses from restoring systems are so high that a target is willing to pay to get a copy of the digital key, which can decrypt the files and restore everything to normal.

According to the INCD, Quds Day is usually a peak time for the distribution of anti-Israel messages and attacks on Israeli websites in the past few years. The event, also known as Jerusalem Day, will fall on April 29 this year.
